Roman Coins / Numismatics

My parents, and in this instance, my father, installed a strong need to ‘collect and have hobbies’.  An early one for me was Roman Coins and it was I think the link that spurred me to study Ancient History at the University of Nottingham

My coin collecting started with the Emperor Postumus, but has now extended to the Gallic Empire and the mid third century – from Philip the Arab (AD 244-248) through to the accession of Diocletion (AD 285).

I have recently become a member of the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies and want to take my interested a renewed level of academic study – funds have always prevented this to date!

My father has a considerable interest in Numismatics and he started collecting the Emperor Gordian 111 (AD 238-244) but now extends across the third century, into the Sassanian Kings and across the Indian subcontinent.  There are inevitably with all hobbies interested which have leads off – my father seems determined to explore most of these!
