Charles and Hannah Key (nee Key!)Charles Key was born c.1848 in Stoke-on-Trent son of Thomas Key Hannah Key was born c.1845 in Eccleshall, Staffordshire daughter of George Key. They married on 15th May 1871 in the Parish Church of St Peter ad vincula, in Stoke-on-Trent. The married certificate records Charles as a Potter, living in Boothen, son of Thomas Key also a Potter. Hannah is recorded as living in Eccleshall, daughter of George Key a Labourer. Children:
The 1881 Census records the family living in one house in 3 Boothen, in the parish of St Peters, in Stoke-on-Trent.
The 1901 Census for 19 Water Street, Boothen, Stoke-on-Trent suggests a real turnaround in the nature and composition of the family - suggesting that Hannah has died and Charles remarried and started a new family. Alfred Frederick would have joined the army by this date and on a posting. It might be that this is a wrong identification, but it seems to fit (note especially that a wife of Alfred in 1935 would be Mrs A Key as per Alfred Frederick's death certificate).
